School Council 2º edição

School Council presents the play written by Jô Bilac and staged by Cia. dos Atores. Winner of several major awards for text, direction and acting, such as the APTR, the Cesgranrio and the Shell Awards, the play addresses issues like the poor condition of schools and the relations of power in the educational institution with humor and depth. Its realistic approach to the school environment starts a debate on the macro and micropolitical issues of education. This publication marks the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Cia. dos Atores.

About the author
Jô Bilac was born in 1985 in Rio de Janeiro. In 2006, he graduated from the Martins Pena Theater School. He’s the award-winning author of various plays and one of the creators of the TV series Segunda chamada (2019 APCA Best Show winner), adapted from School Council. He’s the author of Infância, tiros e plumas, Os mamutes and Insetos, the latter two awarded at Cesgranrio, Festival Internacional de Teatro, Shell, APTR e Aplauso Brasil 2019, all of them published by Cobogó as part of its Dramaturgy Collection. He also wrote Savana glacial (Shell Award), Fluxorama (nominated for APCA), Beije minha lápide (nominated for Shell, APTR and Cesgranrio), Pi – Panorâmica insana (APCA Award) and Vênus Flytrap (Performing Arts London Award), all of them performed in cities Brazil and abroad, such as Bogota, London, New York, Paris, Bologna, Lisbon and Stockholm. His writing was published in various European and Latin American countries. His play Fluxorama was published in the United States by the Yale University Press. Bilac also worked as a curator for Rio de Janeiro playhouses, and is currently a part of the Cia Teatro Independente. He was highlighted by the O Globo newspaper as a theater personality in 2011 and 2013.

About the company
Created in 1988, Cia. dos Atores is currently Cesar Augusto, Gustavo Gasparani, Marcelo Olinto, Marcelo Valle, Susana Ribeiro and Bel Garcia (in memoriam). With over twenty plays performed, numerous awards and a solid national and international career, Cia. dos Atores is in a path of permanent research and renovation. After performing School Council, Insects, also written by Jô Bilac, celebrated the company’s 30th anniversary.

About the collection
The Dramaturgy Collection has, since 2012, published writing by Brazilian and international playwrights. The books help in building a memory of current theater, making a new record in the contemporary theater scene.
