Circular Time brings an overview on the work of the artist Leda Catunda highlighting the cyclic effects of time in her production, presenting her paintings from the last 15 years and relating them to her whole career, initiated in the 1980s.

The book underlines the artist’s interest for the popular and kitsch universes and the construction of a visual poetics were the use of images from personal archives or from the internet come together with nonconventional supports, and with the use of plump and organic forms. Additionally, Circular Time, holds an essay written by curator Paulo Miyada and an interview with the artist lead by curator Fernanda Brenner.
About the artist
Leda Catunda (São Paulo, 1961) graduated in Fine Arts at FAAP, São Paulo. In 2003 she received her doctoral degree at The School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo (ECA/USP), with her dissertation Poética da maciez: pinturas e objetos (The Poetics of Softness: Paintings and Objects). Over the years she has taught painting and drawing at FAAP, at Faculdade Santa Marcelina and at her own studio. In 2016, Catunda was awarded with the Bravo! prize of Best Individual Exhibition of the Year for her “I Love You Baby”, at Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo. The artist partook in four São Paulo Biennials, as well as the Mercosul Biennial and the Havana Biennial. She was in several collectives, such as the historical Como Vai Você, Geração 80? [How Are You Doing, 80s Generation?], Parque Lage (Rio de Janeiro, 1984) and, more recently Past/Future/Present, Phoenix Museum of Art (Phoenix, EUA , 2017); Histórias da Sexualidade (Sexuality Histories), MASP (São Paulo, 2017); Her work is present in several public collections such as Stedelijk Museum, ARCO Foundation, Toyota Municipal Museum of Art, Instituto Inhotim, Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, Masp, MAM São Paulo, MAM Rio.
