Lucas Arruda

Lucas Arruda, the book, collects some of the most relevant works of the São Paulo-born visual artist. Developing his research around landscape manifestations, Lucas Arruda creates work that's both contemporary and timeless. His oil paintings portray skies, seas and forests in simultaneously visual and metaphysical reflections that, guided by light, manipulate the horizon and manifest between sky and earth, abstraction and figuration, apparition and the void, imagination and reality.

About the artist
Lucas Arruda was born in 1983, in São Paulo, where he lives and works. He participated in biennales and art festivals throughout the world, including the Dhaka Art Summit, in Bangladesh, in 2020; the Bienal de Coimbra, in Portugal, in 2017; and the Bienal do Mercosul, in Porto Alegre, in 2009. Among his solo exhibits, some highlights are Deserto-Modelo (Model-Desert) at Fridericianum, in Kassel, in 2019, and Deserto-Modelo at Indipendenza, in Rome, in 2016. He was also part of collective shows, such as Volcano Extravaganza 2019 – DEATH, at Fiorucci Art Trust, in Stromboli, and City Prince/sses, at the Palais de Tokyo, in Paris, in 2019, as well as New Shamans/Novos Xamãs: Brazilian Artists, at Rubell Family Collection, in Miami, in 2016. The artist's works are featured in important collections, such as Tate Modern, in Londres; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, in New York; Fondation Beyeler, in Riehen; Centre Pompidou, in Paris; Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, in Vienna; and Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, in São Paulo.
