In Imperfect Pearl: The History and the Stories in the Work of Adriana Varejão, anthropologist and historian Lilia Moritz Schwarcz treads the research and construction paths of the work of Adriana Varejão, dialectically bridging the retelling of the story by the artist and the many narrative possibilities entwined in this creative process. This two-hand book by an artist and an anthropologist goes over the European colonization of the Americas, the reconfiguration of the traditional Portuguese tilework, miscegenation and direct contact with the Yanomami culture, among many other paths. Here, text and image contend for the same space, deepening the reflection on the relations between history and art.
