The play Overdrive Crab, written by Pedro Kosovski, follows the return of Cosme, a crab picker, to Rio de Janeiro, five years after being called to fight in the Paraguayan War. A nervous breakdown resulting from the horrors witnessed in the conflict brings him to his hometown, which he does not recognize due to its accelerated process of urban revitalization. Even though it is set in the year of 1870, the play evokes the present moment by alluding to the current urban works in Rio de Janeiro and the numerous evictions that have been taking place, a process similar to the one seen in the Mangue (mangrove) – the region of the city then called Rocio Pequeno, today Praça Onze –, where the crab picker lived before heading to the battlefield. The play, directed by Marco André Nunes, won the Shell Award (Best Direction, Text, and Actress), Cesgranrio Award (Direction and Text), and APTR Award (Best Author, Direction, and Actress).
