Maré / brazil Project

MARÉ / bRAZIL PROJECT brings together the texts of two plays by the director and playwright Marcio Abreu. Each in its own manner, they engage with Brazilian issues through pulsating dramas. MARÉ brings to the stage four points of view on the same episode, inspired by a real fact: the massacre in the Maré Complex of favelas in 2013. The grandmother, the children, the mother, and the father of a family that suffered police violence narrate a decisive day in their lives. The work, inspired by the reality of the Brazilian favelas, brings the echoes of the city to the poetic language of the theater. In turn, bRAZIL PROJECT is a dramaturgical creation from the country and not about it, the result of an immersion in deep Brazil, often turbid and turbulent waters to navigate. The play creates a dialogue with what is real through a sequence of discourse – verbal and nonverbal – that makes the audience reflect upon the country’s present, in its political and human aspect, and the multiplicity of countries that exist within.
