Invisible Borders – Dialogues for The Walking Forest Creation

This book presents the creative process of A floresta que anda (The Walking Forest), a play by Christiane Jatahy, who drew inspiration from William Shakespeare’s classic Macbeth to deal with current social and political conflicts. The work collects many hours of conversation between Christiane and her collaborators to build the play, which brings together theater, film, video installation and performance, mixing fiction and documentary.

About the author
Christiane Jatahy is a writer, theater director and filmmaker. She holds degrees in Theater, Journalism, Art and Philosophy. In theater, she put on a few plays which straddle the lines between reality and fiction, actor and character, theater and film: Conjugado (Studio), A Falta que nos move ou Todas as histórias são ficção (The Loss that Moves Us, or All Stories are Fiction) and Corte seco (Dry Cut). She directed the film A falta que nos move (The Loss that Moves Us), filmed in 13 uninterrupted hours by three handheld cameras. In London, she directed the project “In the comfort of your home”, a documentary/video installation with performances by 30 Brazilian artists in English homes. She was awarded the Shell Award for Best Director for Julia, a mixture of theater and live cinema and an adaptation of Strindberg’s Miss Julie. In 2013, she developed the film installation and documentary project Utopia.doc in Paris, Frankfurt and São Paulo. In 2014 she premiered E se elas fossem para Moscou? (What if They Went to Moscow?), a simultaneous play and film shown in two different spaces, based on Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters. It garnered the Shell, Questão de Crítica and APTR awards. Closing the trilogy begun with Julia in 2016, Christiane created A floresta que anda (The Walking Forest), In 2017 she was invited by the Comedie Française to create for Salle Richelieu the play La Règle du Jeu, based on Jean Renoir’s film of the same name. Also this year, she created the project Moving People, in Germany, addressing capitalism, immigrants and refugees. Currently, Christiane Jatahy, whose works are presented in national and international festivals, is an artist associated to Odeon Theatre d’Europe, Le CentQuatre and Theatre National Wallonie-Bruxelles. In 2018, she was invited to be an “artist from the city” of Lisbon.

About the collection
The Dramaturgy Collection has, since 2012, published writing by Brazilian and international playwrights. The books help in building a memory of current theater, making a new record in the contemporary theater scene.
