The book showcases a panorama of the trajectory of Rio de Janeiro artist and poet Katia Maciel, who does films, videos and installations approaching themes surrounding romantic codes and its clichés, as well as the relationship between nature and poetry. They’re over 150 images from different works, organized by theme and accompanied by poetic descriptions written by the artist herself, as well as 18 essays by curators, researchers and art critics on Katia Maciel’s art, incluing Alberto Saraiva, Ismar Tirelli Neto, Guy Brett, Raymond Bellour, Paula Alzugaray, Simone Osthoff, Ricardo Basbaum and Rogerio Luz.
About the artist
Katia Maciel was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1963. She’s an artist, filmmaker and poet, CNPq researcher and professor at the UFRJ Communication Department since 1994. She does films, videos and installations and writes poetry. In 2001, she did post-doctoral studies in interactive arts at the University of Wales. She has published books such as Zun (poetry), 2012, Transcinemas, 2009, and A arte da desaparição: Jean Baudrillard (The art of disappearance: Jean Baudrillard), 1997. She was part of exhibitions in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, United States, England, France, Spain, Germany, Lithuania, Sweden and China. She has won many awards, such as Caixa Cultural Brasília (2011), Funarte de Estímulo à Criação Artística em Artes Visuais (2010), Rumos Itaucultural (2009), Sérgio Motta (2005) and Petrobras Mídias Digitais (2003).
