Rodrigo Matheus presents a panorama of the artist’s trajectory. The artist takes a careful look at usual materials to develop them into sculptures and installations, jumpstarting new meanings for objects, beyond their original function.
About the artist
Rodrigo Matheus was born in 1974, in São Paulo, and currently lives and works in Paris. He holds an undergraduate degree in Media and Intermedia from the Visual Arts department of ECA/USP and a Master’s degree in Sculpture from the London Royal College of Arts, and has shown his work in institutions and galleries in various countries. Among his most recent solo exhibitions are Soft Spectacle, in 2017, at the Ibid Gallery, in Los Angeles; Atração, in 2015, at Galeria Fortes Vilaça, in São Paulo, and Hollwyood, in 2010, at Galeria Silvia Cintra + Box 4, in Rio de Janeiro. The artist has also participated in collective exhibitions, such as Museum ON/OFF, in 2016, at Centre Pompidou, in Paris, Le parfait flâneur, in 2015, at Palais de Tokyo, and Work in Progress, in 2012, at Royal College of Art, in London. Matheus is a five-time PIPA nominee – PIPA is the most relevant Brazilian visual arts award, a partnership between Instituto PIPA and MAM-Rio.
